Ad Augusta is one of my first compositions for Brass Band, a slow piece featuring two themes. The first part in minor uses an unstable and melancholic theme symbolizing doubt or fear. Contrasting with this first atmosphere, the flugelhorn then shyly exposes the theme of the second part. Then, after a last appearance of the first theme, the second theme is developed in a powerful tutti. This second theme represents hope against doubt or fear and this is the reason why it ends the work.
